I encourage everyone to use GPS when they are riding. I use an Ipad but all you really need is your phone. I use my phone as a backup to my ipad. It helps to be able to mount your phone but, you don’t have to. I know of two kinds of GPS, GAIA gps, http://gaiagps.com and OnX Offroad ,https://www.onxmaps.com/offroad/app . I started with GAIA and will continue to use it, but OnX has a lot of good qualities and many of our members use it. I also subscribe to OnX. The introductory free version is not very helpful so you will need to subscribe in order to really use either version. For OnX, I found a really good tutorial on YouTube, https://youtu.be/Cso0M6X2sa4?si=2C5G7ppd0TQqSwbe. For GAIA, https://youtu.be/HbZhqorkBu0?si=XrAP-JyS22JL7I1Y. I find that OnX is easier to use than GAIA. It actually has many trails preloaded where GAIA does not. However, GAIA has many more base maps to use that OnX does not. For GAIA, I mostly find a track (gpx file) and import it or I import it from the many rides that I have saved over the years. I use FunTreks, https://funtreks.com/ as one source for tracks. You can import tracks into either OnX or GAIA. OnX has many trails preloaded so you may not need to import a track. I have many tracks saved and would be glad to share any that I have with any Member.

We have a camp and ride coming up and I encourage everyone to come prepared to use GPS. Like I said earlier, all you need to get started is your phone (and a subscription). If you record our ride, you will always be able to find your way back to camp. That is really comforting to me.
